Description

Moorcroft Limited Edition Large Garden Bee Plaque, MCR-046

Originally founded as a studio in 1897 within a large ceramic company, James Macintyre & Co. Moorcroft pottery soon made its mark on the world. Today, Moorcroft leads the world of art pottery with its own distinctive design style. C W Sellors are proud to present this Moorcroft collection featuring stunning pottery designs inspired by the humble bumble bee.

Four plaques feature four species of endangered bees and the flowers attractive to them.  The broken-belted bumblebee feasts on a cornflower.  The yellow band at the front of the thorax is an intense, bright yellow and the white tail often has a beige hue at the front with a scattering of yellow hairs.  The large garden bumblebee buries itself into the tubular cavity of a foxglove flower (is there a nicer sound than the hum of bees’ wings echoing within a foxglove?).  The bilberry bee chooses bilberry fruit of course, its little body causing the branch to bend over with the weight of berries and a bee.  And finally, the great yellow bee chooses a thistle.

It is well-known that bumblebees are great pollinators, and therefore have a key role in producing most of the food that we eat and the flowers we enjoy.  As you sit back to enjoy these designs in your home, let them be a reminder to us all to think carefully about mowing down weeds, using chemicals in gardens and where we shop.

All articles purchased from C W Sellors are lovingly and securely dispatched with our elegant packaging.
